Halitosis

Halenă/Halitosis

The title of the project has its origin in the fact that man is subjected to repetitive attempt and mistake, a phenomenon that grows unnaturally, bringing with it the smell of weakness. The project evolved based on my personal research in the process of the decomposition of material and soul. The essential milestone is the common person, subjected to decay and defamation both on a physical and mental level. Organic or moral changes give birth to disordered, exaggerated images, a beauty found in a morbid poverty spectacle.

The presented works are executed in different tehniques on different sizes, starting from a drawing in tar, then proceeding to the use of pastel and oil colours. I tried to draw by analyzing the image of a depraved world in which a grotesque beauty of misery is concealed, occasionally interfering with elements or deformations to outline the relationship with the subject in a better way.

In the project, the color has changed its meaning, from a consistent color to a pure black and white, supporting the idea of decomposition. The works where color is used predominantly emphasize the monumentality of the representation, while the almost black and white ones renders a violent stage intensified by inability.

The subjects are detached from the ideal's sphere and reproduce the struggle for human survival in a world dominated by poverty, a war that causes accidents and concede the illness. Moral deprivation is seen as physical trauma, the result of accidents suffered in an attempt to hang on to any form of hope.

The individual subjected to insufficiency is brought to the viewer in a monumental, glorious manner. The glory of weakness causes suffering and illness, both the psyche and the body being ruined, accidentally crushed by choices made and haunted by any form of consciousness lost under the repeated attempt of "trying again".

Basic information

Tăvală Cătălin was born in 1996, in Sibiu city where he graduated the theoretical high school ''Octavian Goga'' 2015, at the bio-chemistry department. In present, Cătălin is studying art at the Art and Design University in Cluj- Napoca at the graphics department.  Cătălin uses the traditional figurative drawing as the main mode of expression. He finds in the tehnique of drawing more than a daily occupation that captivates him- rather a rhythm, lifestyle, something vital that meets his need for knowledge and analysis of what is happening around him.        Drawing is a challenge for him who tries to analyze an objective image from reality to reach something subjective by specific means and this results in the creation of an intimate connection between this artistic approach, the challenge of rendering something and the artist.                         The themes approached by Cătălin are so common that sometimes we do not pay attention to them and
